For Before, During & After: Here Now (How To Keep The Balance) Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom continued to build on a project of learning to play the drums.

Boakye-Yiadom worked on learning a single drum track, within moments outside of work and life commitments, capturing this journey through audio recordings, moving image and photography. He collaborated with photographers and videographers with a distinctly different approach, exploring different ways of capturing live learning without the body in the frame or main subject of focus.

Boakye-Yiadom is interested in ideas around communication, support and human history as intertwined. This was exposed through the process of making and learning as an intrinsic part of the work, highlighting moments of connection: most cultural moments and ideas stem from where they merge, grow, collide, complicate and evolve new relationships alongside contradictions, fluctuations and uncertainty.

Artists

Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom works across multi-disciplinary practice including found materials and objects, sculpture, photography, sound, performance, archive and self-produced moving image. He creates installations where the mediums are ever-evolving, remodelled and constantly conversing with each other. His work exists and exposes the different steps in its process, with multilayered references exploring where parameter lines are lucid, murky and faint. Snippets of film footage and fragments of sound are incorporated into the works, as well as collaborations with musicians for live improvisation.
