Rubber Life Drawing with Gut Level
workshop • 24 Jan 2025 6pm–9pmJoin us for an evening of life drawing, centred around the use of rubber within the environment, consumption, care and intimacy curated by Gut Level.
Expect non-traditional materials, settings and life drawing models. The evening will provide space to consider the materiality of rubber and its presence in our various environments, from its use in heavy industry to fashion and fetish wear. Life drawing is an act of reflection and observation in our busy lives.
Taking inspiration from Sam Keelan’s video work Tired as the Land this event invites and encourages attendees to consider their own place and relationship within capitalistic structures. Sam Keelan is a selected artist as part of current exhibition Jerwood Survey III. His artwork, Tired as the Land, is a slow-paced video that looks at feelings of closeness, care, and relaxation, featuring two characters, a person, and a large rubber hot water bottle, uncannily humanised with an emoji smile.
The evening will be hosted and guided by Grace Clifford and Salome Henshall Gray from Gut Level. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you wish.
Donation bar – including hot tea, beers and soft drinks.
Suitable for 18+

This event will take place on the ground floor of our building, in Studio I, which is wheelchair accessible. There are accessible toilets on the same floor. If you have any questions or if there is anything we can do to improve your visit please email rosie.thompson@sitegallery.org.
Artists
Gut Level is a not-for-profit members club, venue, and community space working to find models for collective joy that resist capitalism.
Grace Clifford is an artist working in mostly sculpture. She is interested in the rituals and reflections that surround labour. She has recently made work around horses, soap, mourning something that can’t be dead, chocolate, toil, God and plastic water bottles.
Salome Henshall Gray is the founder of Degenerate Art Club, a monthly life drawing class based at Gut Level which is focused on trans and non-binary bodies and experiences, and has so far exclusively featured trans and non-binary people as models
