Society of Explorers – Permanent Distraction Remix Party

Join us for an afternoon of activities programmed by the Society of Explorers as they remix Rafaël Rozendaal's exhibition Permanent Distraction.
Join us for a remix party celebrating Permanent Distraction, curated by Site’s young persons’ group Society of Explorers. On the day there will be two simultaneous drop-in workshops: Create Your Own Inflatable workshop led by Rosie McGinn, and Synth Exploration with Eoin Loveless.
Create Your Own Inflatable
Come and learn how to make inflatable raving air puppets with Rosie McGinn. Using industrial fans we will design and assemble our own dancing tubes with flailing arms to interact with the projections in the space.
Synth Exploration Workshop
Build your own synth loop with artist and musician Eoin Loveless. Learn the basics of Korg synthesizers and build your own loop with bass, drums and piano parts. Once you have created your loop you will then get the opportunity to manipulate your creation with different effects and distortion.
Society of Explorers is a group of culturally-curious young people who meet every Wednesday evening to collaborate, discuss and create. They work with artists and the Site Gallery team to get involved in the artistic programme and develop projects, events and ideas.
Previous iterations of Remix have included Glitches in a Crystal World and Crit-a-Öke. Further details will be announced when the group have finalised their plans.

Site Gallery would like to reassure you that we will be continuing to follow safety measures to protect and prioritise the safety and access of our staff, volunteers and visitors.
Therefore, the following measures remain in place for all visitors to the gallery and cafe and we ask you to abide by them:
Face coverings
Face coverings will be required for everyone over the age of 11 when visiting, unless exempt.
Sanitiser
You should sanitise your hands when entering the building, and there will be hand sanitiser stations and clear signage throughout.
Social Distancing
Social distancing measures continue to apply inside the building.
Please note that our reception has a small capacity and we may ask you to wait outside on arrival, so dress accordingly for the weather on the day.

Rosie McGinn [b. 1993, Maidstone] lives and works in London. McGinn’s practice follows a fixation with the human tendency to chase heightened moments and the psychological drives underlying euphoria. Scoring a goal, winning at Bingo, raving, getting on a rollercoaster, lifting an unimaginable weight; these rituals observed within the work often pursue human transcendence and extreme human achievement. This can take form through a range of mediums including kinetic sculpture, inflatable installation, puppetry, video, painting and text.
