Site Edition No. 3
Jasper, 2012
Edition of 10
Handmade 18-colour silkscreen print
Signed, numbered and dated by the artist

To coincide with Ernest Edmond’s exhibition Light Logic, Site has commissioned a unique print, presenting an exclusive opportunity to purchase original work from this acclaimed artist.

Only available from Site Gallery, the constructivist design was originally developed in the 1980s by Edmonds for his early painting Jasper, 1988. The same two linked patterns of concentric coloured squares, carefully positioned with mathematical precision, make up this design, Jasper, 2012.

The 10 editions are available for purchase at £220.00 (incl VAT).

Printing process
Silk screen printing involves the artist and printer creating a version of the image in its negative form and then screening off areas of the print in order to apply one colour at a time. An 18-colour print requires a lot of precision, drying time and patience! A silk screen mesh sits between the paper and the pigment. As this process is undertaken by hand, there are likely to be small differences between each individual work. Each piece is signed and numbered by the artist to confirm its place in the edition.
Ernest Edmonds has worked closely with master printer Rupert Wood at the Sheffield Archipelago Works, the artist has developed an 18 colour, silk-screen print which will take two craftspeople several days to produce the full edition of 10 prints.

Framing
Site recommends bespoke framing for the print.  We can offer a special discounted price at the printing and framing studio Archipelago Works, who recommend a frame in the same style – wood, colour, depth and shape – of Ernest Edmonds work.
This is available for £105 and can be ordered through Site Gallery at the time of purchasing the print.

About the artist
Born in London in 1942, Ernest Edmonds moved to Leicester in the 1960s where he undertook studies in Mathematics and Philosophy followed by a PhD in Logic at Nottingham University. He first showed a generative timebased computer work in London in 1985.
An early computer art pioneer coming out of the constructivist painting scene in the late 1960s Edmonds’ work has been shown across the world and has been a source of inspiration for many artists over the past forty years. In 2004, Edmonds instituted Beta Space, a centre for research into interactive art at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum. The V&A Gallery, London, has recently purchased his entire early archive for the National Archive of Computer Based Art and Design. Edmond’s current work continues his longstanding exploration of abstraction, audience interaction and the correspondences between sound and image.
