Site Gallery is delighted to be hosting three artist residencies as part of Occursus, a collaborative research programme developed by Dr. Amanda Crawley Jackson funded by DLA Piper. Including a reading group, residencies, exhibitions and publications, Occursus invites artists, writers and curators in residence to work alongside practitioners from other disciplines in collaborative research and writing projects
occursus (Latin) : a meeting; to run or bump into each other
The three artists in residents are as follows
Hondartza Fraga
Hondartza Fraga is a visual artist based in Sheffield. During June 2011, she was an artist in residency at Site Gallery, where she started developing new work. Her current practice revolves around the notions of distance, journey, loss, displacement and what it might mean to be lost somewhere between home and elsewhere. Deriving from her interest in space exploration, this work is a more personal reflection on the strangeness of the everyday and the familiar in the extraordinary.
Maud Haya-Baviera
Maud Haya-Baviera has exhibited her work in a solo capacity and in group shows nationally and internationally. Recent exhibitions include Jour de Fête, The Private Space Gallery, Barcelona, Spain (2011), The Way Things Work, Athens Institute of Contemporary Art, GA, USA (2011), Art Sheffield 10, Life: A User’s Manual, Sheffield (2010), Delightful desuetude, Bloc Projects, Sheffield (2009), To the King, La Cité Internationale, Paris (2009). She has received a numbers of awards in relation to international projects and towards the production of new works.
Jerome Grivel
Inspired by underground culture and artistic vanguard he developed a transdisciplinary practice that include sound installation, sculpture, video and performance. As an interrogation of the extreme, his practice sails between silence and saturation, violence and quiet.
As an artist he has exhibited in group show and festivals include Instant d’écoute, Le dojo, Nice, France (2011), 1975-2011, 6/6, Galerie Catherine Issert, Saint Paul De Vence, France (2011), City Sonic #7, Mons, Belgium (2009), 54e Salon de Montrouge, Montrouge, France (2009).
