We are proud to mark National Care Leavers’ Week by announcing the launch of Creative Producers, a four-year programme designed to nurture the creative talent of care-experienced young people aged 18-25.
Starting next month, the programme will offer participants the opportunity to develop their creativity, gain professional skills, and explore the vibrant creative industries in Sheffield.
In partnership with Sheffield City Council’s Voice and Influence Team, Creative Producers will provide weekly creative workshops, led by experienced artists, tailored to the interests and skills of the young people involved. Through these sessions, participants will have the chance to experiment with different art forms, develop their creative practice, and produce events. The programme will also feature trips to various arts organisations, giving participants the chance to engage with Sheffield’s diverse cultural scene and beyond. By providing these opportunities, we aim to empower participants to grow in confidence and build pathways into the creative sector.
Peter Martin, Site Gallery’s Participation Manager says: Site Gallery has learnt so much through collaborating with the Voice and Influence Team over the past three years. This project will help us build on that relationship towards our shared aims of making culture in Sheffield more accessible to care experienced young people, and giving them the support and resources to shape their own culture. We have just finished recruiting our initial cohort of Creative Producers and I can’t wait to start working with them at Site Gallery!
The project is generously funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
